Coming back to work after the holidays always feels a little special. There is a fresh energy, a quiet excitement, and the feeling of slowly returning to the rhythm of creating meaningful memories for families.
My first session after the break was a newborn session—and it was the loveliest way to begin again.
This little baby was already one month old. Usually, newborn sessions are recommended within the first 5 to 10 days after birth, when babies tend to sleep more deeply and are naturally more curled up and flexible. At around four weeks, babies are often more alert, stronger, and more aware of the world around them.
That does not mean the session cannot be beautiful. It simply means we follow the baby’s lead.
This session took a little longer than a typical early newborn session, with more pauses for feeding, settling, cuddles, and comforting. There was no rush. We allowed plenty of time for baby to feel safe, warm, and relaxed—and that is always the most important thing.
At one month old, babies often give us something wonderfully different: little stretches, curious eyes, tiny expressions, and moments of connection with their parents. Instead of expecting a very sleepy, curled-up newborn throughout the session, we embraced the stage this baby was in.
There were peaceful moments in arms, gentle details of tiny hands and feet, and the kind of images that tell the real story of those first weeks at home. A baby changes so quickly during this time, and every stage deserves to be remembered.
I always tell parents that there is no “too late” when it comes to photographing your baby. Of course, the first days are a beautiful time for classic sleepy newborn portraits, but life with a new baby is unpredictable. Recovering after birth, feeding routines, siblings, visitors, and simply finding your feet as a family can make those first days pass in a blur.
If your baby is already a few weeks old, please do not worry. We can still create soft, timeless, heartfelt photographs that you will treasure for years.
This first newborn session after the holidays was a beautiful reminder that every baby arrives at their session with their own rhythm. My role is never to force a moment—it is to create a calm space, be patient, and capture the love that is already there.
If you are expecting a baby or your little one has already arrived, I would love to help you preserve this fleeting chapter of your family story.
